Can I use your products with other chemicals?
Yes, all of our products can be used in the presence of other tannery chemicals.  This is because our products can be applied in a wide pH range from 2.5 to 14.
How much product will I need?
The amount of product is based on the weight of the hide.
In high fat hides and skins our protocol says to use ProSpread and ProDegreaze during soaking instead of ProSoak-why remove ProSoak in the soaking stage? What is the purpose of ProSoak?
When we first developed the tannery products, we started with hides which were thin and had very little fat. Rehydration by soaking is the first operation in tanning. ProSoak has little degreasing or dispersing property but helps in accelerating wetting and also has some cleaning properties.  The next product we developed was ProDegreaze because degreasing was a big market for us.  ProSpread was developed when we realized that apart from wetting and degreasing, we also need to disperse residual fat. This is because, there will always be some residual natural fat which should not accumulate at one place but should be dispersed. In essence: ProSoak is a pure wetting and cleaning agent.  ProSpread has some wetting and fat dispersion character and ProDegreaze is a pure degreaser. In fatty hides, wetting will not take place unless fat is dispersed as fat will not allow rehydration. So ProSoak will not work here. This is why ProSpread is recommended for fatty hides.
Traditional degreasers use surface active agents and solvents that render the natural fat soluble in water. How do your products degrade the natural fat?
Our products emulsify the natural fat which then flows out along with the float.
How do your products work to promote wetting back?
Our products reduce surface tension, break down natural fats and open up the fibers.  They also help water and other chemicals penetrate into the skin.
Can your products be used on green hides?
This has not been tested but we see no reason why it wouldn’t work.  Based on our understanding of how our products work we know it can be used on green, dry salted, wet salted and air dried hides and skins.
Is there any dermal loss from the hides with your products
During regular bulk production there has been no dermal loss based on consistent observation and feedback from our existing users in India.
What chemicals do your products replace?
  1. At the soaking stage, ProSoak and ProSpread are used in combination. Together, they replace soaking enzymes and surfactants that are used at the soaking stage:
    • Soaking enzymes  -supplied by TFL of Germany, Buckman Labs and Novozymes
    • Surfactants - Pellvit range from TFL, Eusapon range from BASF and some chemical surfactants                   from Clariant
  2.  At the degreasing stage, the most popular degreasing chemical suppliers are:
    • TFL (BORRON range), BASF (Eusapon), Dr. Boehme (JELAN), Buckman (BUSPAR), Clariant, Zimmer & Schwarz (SUPERALON) etc.
Does the use of your products eliminate or reduce the use of sulfides?
Yes.  Sodium sulfide during liming can be reduced significantly.
Do your products eliminate the use of enzymes at soaking?
Yes, using ProSoak and ProSpread in conjunction at the soaking stage eliminates the need for enzymes.
Does the use of ProSoak and ProSpread in the soaking process reduce or eliminate liming chemicals?
No, using ProSoak and ProSpread does not eliminate the use of lime. The advantage is easy unhairing with no visible hair roots or scuds.  In addition, the use of ProSoak and ProSpread ensures a better uptake of chemicals as fibers open more compared to the regular process.
Will your products work individually?
At the soaking stage, ProSoak and ProSpread need to be used in combination-ProSoak at 0.3% of hide weight and ProSpread at 0.2% of hide weight.  When the wet blue is processed to finished leather, ProSpread is used at 0.75% the hide weight during the wetting back process.  ProDegreaze is used by itself at the degreasing stage.
What pH range can your products be used in?
Our broad pH range (2.5 to 14) allows our products to be used throughout the tanning process and in conjunction with all other tannery chemicals.
What temperature range do ProSoak, ProSpread and ProDegreaze operate in?
All three products perform well within the range of 5°C to 60°C (41°F – 140°F).  The products have been tested in temperatures as low as 1.5°C (35°F) with no loss in performance as the temperature of the drum is usually higher than the ambient temperature.
What sizes can I buy these products in?
They will be sold mostly in totes and drums.  Smaller pack sizes may only be used for trials.
What kinds of hides can I use your products on?
Our products can be used on any type of hide / skins, be it cow, sheep, goat, buff etc., including jumbo bovines.

    • ProSafe can be used as a solvent across all kinds of finishes – anionic or cationic and hence avoids necessity of multiple product inventory
What are the physical results after using ProSoak, ProSpread, ProDegreaze and ProSafe?
These are in the process of being tested again.   We have done the shrinkage tests and physical property test (such as tear strength and grain crack strength) and also a residual fat test.  The results in all of these were above specs.
What chemicals are eliminated or reduced in the tanning process when using ProSoak, ProSpread, ProDegreaze and ProSafe?
The amount of sulphuric acid during pickling is likely to be reduced as our product does not raise pH but this has to be decided based on practical tests onsite.  Your entire degreasing chemical is replaced when using ProDegreaze-the amount used is usually 10-15% less than required by your degreasing chemical.
How does it compare on costs?
Our Products are competitively priced. While the unit cost may be higher, consumption can be reduced by one-third when compared to solvents.
Are these products certified?
All our tannery products in the ProViera range are REACH certified.
In summary…
...ProSoak is a pure wetting and cleaning agent.  ProSpread has some wetting and fat dispersion character , ProDegreaze is a pure degreaser and ProSafe is for excellent finish. In fatty hides, wetting will not take place unless fat is dispersed as fat will not allow rehydration. So ProSoak will not work here. This is why ProSpread is recommended for fatty hides.
How do I use ProSoak, ProSpread, ProDegreaze and ProSafe?
ProSoak and ProSpread These are used at the pre-wash and soaking stages.  These are used (together) in a combination of 0.3% of the hide weight of ProSoak and 0.2% of the hide weight of ProSpread. When using these two, you can completely eliminate all surfactants and soaking enzymes that would otherwise be used.  There is no need to add bactericide at soaking. Bactericides may be added at 50 % of normal rate. When converting raw hides to wet blue, ProSoak and ProSpread are used together at the soaking stage and they are used only here.  Nowhere else.  However, when the wet blue is processed to finished leather, the first operation is wetting back, and here ProSpread is used at about 0.75%  to 1.50 % of the hide weight, depending upon dryness of wetblue. ProDegreaze: For Cow Hides:
  • Apply 0.2 to 0.5 % of hide weight in liming / unhairing stage . At subsequent stages replace chemical degreasers in 1:1 ratio
  • For Sheep/Lambskins: Apply 1.5 to 2% of skin weight in 2 or 3 stages as necessary – Pl hold this, I need to check this with Suat of Turkey
*ProDegreaze completely replaces your current degreasing chemical.  As a rule of thumb you should use 10-15% less ofProDegreaze compared to the chemical degreaser currently being used.  You may need to adjust the rate, higher or lower, depending on the results. ProSafe ProSafe is a 100 % bio-degradable solvent used in finishing operations in leather such as Auto-spray or Roller Coat application of pigment seasons
Any suggestions for wetting back extremely dry wet blue?
In tropical countries, wet blue tends to get too dry and we have seen that best results are obtained by using ProDegreaze at 0.5 % of wet blue weight in combination with ProSpread at 0.5 %.
Which of Proviera products are good for raw hides that contain a great quantity of dung, blood etc.,
